I have a strange sensation that I should be in beautiful Rosemary Beach right now. That’s where we stayed last year for the Gulf Coast Half Ironman. Instead, I’m packing up goggles and still training hard.
The Goggle Drive netted us 245 goggles. That’s TWO HUNDRED FORTY FIVE. Plus countless kids’ suits, kickboards, fins, and swim caps. I’d say about 40% of the goggles are brand new, in the packages. Ryan Landy and I are so excited about this, and we’ll post pictures shortly. THANK YOU for your kindness and generosity.
I wanted so badly to go back to Gulf Coast. Of course I love this race (and it was my first-ever half ironman!), but the fact that SNOOP DOG is performing tomorrow night in Panama City is the real carrot. Fo shizzle.

If you’re down there, you better check it out and report back. My race last year was a ton of fun, mainly because so many people from Atlanta head down to Panama City for the event every year, and racing among friends and family is ALWAYS better. Plus, the pre-race swims (and sharing shark phobias) are always better with friends. This is a shot of my friend Blair and I right before the start.

So I wanted to see Snoop, and I wanted to go back as a pro this year and have a real shot at the podium. However, Coach Matt decided that it was most prudent to keep building for Eagleman, since a half ironman does take a couple weeks to shake out. He’s the brains behind the operation, and I trust him. Instead, I’m racing Memphis in May next weekend. I’m not sure if this is a punishment or not. I keep telling myself how much I LOVE olympic distance racing. I’m not sold on my own sales pitch, though! At any rate, best of luck to my friends racing Gulf “Roast” this weekend. I hope to be back next year. Maybe Snoop Dog will make another appearance if you guys treat him right.
There’s a big surprise for Momma Naj this weekend, and we can’t wait to give it to her. She’s a loyal blog reader, so I’ll try to keep my mouth shut for a little bit longer, but I can’t wait to post pics of her surprise…. coming soon.
Happy Mother’s Day weekend to all you mommas out there. I got a special gift from my little baby girl already. This little sausage will always be small, cute, and happy to see me. The perfect child!

I think you’re totally making the right call on GCT… even though its (dead) flat, its always hot…and recovery CAN take a while! Hhhmmm – I’m familiar with Rosemary Beach. I would stop at the Starbucks there EVERY TIME I went to PCB from Pensacola. Beautiful – but something always seemed “off”. Maybe because it’s filled with empty houses and populated with 300 year-round residents. Fun – but just a little weird. I always think of The Truman Show (probably because the movie was filmed nearby in a similar town…but I digress).
You’ll do great at MIM – it will be PERFECT for Eagleman! YES! Have fun, enjoy the training, and keep up the GREAT work. (sorry this was so long…yikes!)
come visit me…snoop is coming to the triangle as well:-)
