Today we drove around most of the gorgeous Cape Peninsula and saw some interesting characters. At Boulder’s Beach we found all the penguins. I LOVE these little guys– they’re like weeble-wobbles. They remind me of little old men when they walk. So cute!!!

We kept driving and suddenly saw some activity up ahead. Baboons in the road!

See the one with the big red booty? Turns out that when female baboons are in heat, their butts grow big and red. Good thing we skipped that gene as we evolved, right ladies?

Apparently the randy female was also a trouble-maker, as she got into a little scrap with the other babymomma. (I think it’s absolutely adorable how the little babies just hang on during all the action.)

All this is going on while we’re parked on the side of the road, laughing hysterically as several baboons climbed on top of the car, peed on the windshield, and were just bouncing around.
And of course this was amusing . . .

Hopefully I haven’t offended anyone. Just reporting live from mother nature as it happens!
We had to keep our windows up and doors locked, because they can get into your car otherwise. And once they have something, don’t try to take it away, or else they can get very aggressive. Watching them interact was hilarious, entertaining, and fascinating. I absolutely LOVED seeing these baboons!!

Another awesome day. Tomorrow it’s the BIG FIVE, and I plan to park my ass right next to the man packin’ heat. I want to be behind the guy with the gun in case anyone pisses off a lion!!
Thanks for checking in.

OMG Amy!
Oh that was great. Here I am, not sleeping so I get up, wide awake at 12:45am, checking out your blog, laughing out loud, and not calming my mind like I was supposed to. Great baboon story, and race report too. I’m so envious of you girl, you experience so much!
I think I’ve seen a few of those on Match.com
hi AMY!! great job on the race. I was telling my S. African teammate Caroline here about you and how you won and she was like “oooh I bet that caused quite a stir with the locals!” anyway also wanted to say how pretty I think you look without makeup! and all the naughty monkey bits…..HAHAHAHA we have naughty monkeys here in the Philippines too but they don’t really flash me their little weenies.
Your experiences there sound as though they have been great but your commentaries have been absolutely hilarious. When did you get so darned funny? I love it. I think you got your funnies from me!!
