  1. Hey, have you tried out the New Balance 800 yet? They are supposed to be designed for a mid foot striker. I was wondering if there were any comments from elite athletes.

Also, why are you announcing at IM Coz, and not racing?

Hey Jim- I have never used the 800s. I am a creature of habit and just continue to use what works for me. I train in the 1224 model and race in the 903 model. The 903 is too light for me to train in, but I LOVE racing in it.
As far as Cozumel… ANNOUNCING an Ironman is as close as I want to get to one again! I did my time… not so interested in racing that distance anymore. The team that runs Cancun and now Cozumel is REALLY good– it should be an awesome event. I’m excited to be a part of it… w/o partaking in the sufferfest.

  3. Amy,
You mentioned foot issues. Seems I have had my share and am getting those in the past. Still, on a tough day, the ol dogs hurt. Just wondering what you have had and how you dealt w/it. So much to discuss regarding shoes, bio mechanics, etc. I am doing some reseacrh on this and your input would be valuable. If you want to e-mail me, it’s systemjake@gmail.com

    Thanks!
    Jake

Hey buddy- good to hear from you! Sending you an email now, but here’s the basic gist for anyone else who’s concerned…
    - I have wicked flat feet and tend to get pain on the inside of my foot. Dr. Sadri @ First Choice Healthcare helped me understand where this pain is coming from and how to stretch that area… it’s really from tightness in the opposite side of my lower leg. After a few minutes of him working on it, I feel a big difference. I can also do this on my own and need to not be so lazy about it!!
    - Also use really good orthotics made by my podiatrist.
    - I only wear my light shoes (New Balance 903) on race day. All training done in heavier, very supportive shoes (1224).
    - I keep the bulk of my running on soft surface only. The dirt/crushed gravel at the Chattahoochee River is home turf! This makes a HUGE difference for me and I really feel it in terms of recovery.
    - I change out my shoes every couple months.
    - Less time in high heels = less painful feet (this one’s for the ladies, not you, Jake! ;)
    - A very big issue that Wes from New Balance helped me with years ago was actually getting a 1/2 size bigger shoe.
Hope this is helpful. I’m not the expert but that’s what I’ve been doing. Let me know if you have any other tips too. I’m all ears!
