Sticking To My Resolutions.

I’m not a big fan of making lists of new years resolutions.  Besides making a more concerted effort to live like a more organized, normal human being (read: not a slob), I do have one “resolution” that I told myself that I’d attempt to achieve.

When it comes to motivation, I’ve got it.  I tackle the training plan that Matt lays out for me without too many hiccups.  That’s not the kind of motivation I am looking for in 2009.  This year, I’m looking to dig deep . . . and get the hell out of my house!!!

That’s right. I can log the hours and sweat it out with the best of them, but when it comes to hitting the town, I’m a total lame-ass.  I piss, moan, whine and bitch about how tired I am, how sore my legs are, and how (insert any other lame excuse here.)

I’m not looking to be Paris’ new BFF, but I live in a cool city with lots of great things to do, see, and eat!  So we started on Saturday night, chippin’ away at that new year’s resolution! I gotta tell all you Atlanta people— go check out R Thomas Grill!!   I’m going to take my new project seriously, and share my findings with all loyal readers.

R Thomas Grill is the funkiest place I’ve been to in Atlanta.   It’s a very quirky, 24-hr health food restaurant whose menu runs the gamut and can appeal to anyone– PROMISE.    The quirky decorations and cages of birds outside make you feel like you’re in a trailer park of tiki huts.  (I know– WILD, huh?  Baby steps…)  Danny and I decided to invite the most fun couple we know to join us: my mom and Alex.  We had a great time and enjoyed some seaweed and kelp salad, free-range chicken fajitas, sloppy veggie joes, and some tempeh thai concoction with veggies and quinoa.

Just to be sure we didn’t overdo the health food, we rounded it out with a couple pieces of chocolate cake.

I documented the outing with my camera phone, just in case I don’t get out for a while again.

The training is going well (at least I’m tired, which is a good indication, right?), and I’m about five weeks from the first race of the year.  The first race is always exciting, but this one entails some trip planning and organization, so that we’ll make the most of our time in this amazing place.  (We’ve done none, for the record.)    Danny jokingly suggested we do “book reports” since I was giving him crap for not doing any research yet.

Ryan (race director), trying to help with my lack of planning, asked if I wanted to swim with any white sharks.  UM… As in GREAT WHITE sharks, Ryan?  How emphatically can you respond HELL NO!!!! Keep those South African fishies as far the hell away from me as possible, cage or no cage, please!!!!

I am excited to have a recovery week this week, and I plan to start my work on my “book report.”   Danny’s going DOWN!!

  1. A new years resolution to party more. Pretty interesting, even if it is going out to eat seaweed salad with your mom and dad.

Really Cool Blog. I’ll be back. Keep up the training, best of luck.

The only menu item Alex recognized was free range chicken (he asked what free range meant) gotta love him !! Amy, Danny and I were in food heaven. made lots of promises to return. So did Alex, bless his ever lyin heart!! I know he choked it down knowing that dessert was the coup de graz. He certainly didnt back away from that.
