Quickie

Just a quickie to say that although we encountered multiple ways to buy the farm in the last 36hrs, we are alive, kicking, and having a piss-your-pants-hilarious good time.  I am even sporting a ghetto-licious Missy Elliot-style Puma track suit that I scored for about 12 bucks.  Big Pimpin.  I´m sure it´s authentic.  I have a thing for Puma, so this was quite a find.

Anyway, this is just a quickie to whet the appetite to check back tomorrow night for all the details. I have so many funny stories from the past 2 days, however, I just don´t have the bandwidth love to pull it off.  Tomorrow night we´ll arrive in Aguas Calientes, the big hub before you arrive at Machu Picchu, and we´ll have plenty more to report, with vis aids to boot.  Although quite a charming little town nestled in between monstrous mountains, Santa Teresa could use a little more kick in the internet department.

I´ll leave you with this.  After hiking all day up and down narrow mountain paths, pissing our pants with fear as we hesitantly crossed a path destroyed by a landslide, cable car crossed a huge river in a small little basket that looked about as secure as a Kleenex in the wind, and working hard to swallow (or at least push aside) my fear of heights… we finally arrived at an oasis of hot springs and waterfalls— only to discover a special Peruvian variety of blood-sucking bastard mosquitos.  Our group is hilarious, but the redhead in the picture is another fab Kiwi who is beyond funny. We were frantically swatting ourselves and dousing with DEET, but to no avail. We hopped on the back of this truck to escape, and decided she would be the sacrificial lamb who needed to smoke a cigarette in order to keep the bastard mosquitos at bay. She said she doesn´t smoke but was willing to take one for the team.  What a trooper. We couldn´t stop laughing.

More tomorrow. We´ve got a big day of hiking tomorrow… about 7 hours total.  Love it.

Thanks for checking in!
