Thank you guys so much for washing and donating your shoes! I’ve got a big old bag chock full of sweet kicks. I talked to Bianca today and she has 45 pairs to bring, too! I’m really excited about this.
For those of you who offered (but I turned down b/c I had too many)– hold on to them! There is no reason we can’t do this at a local level. Jen Adley, Jennifer Lesser and I are putting something together for a Triathlete Holiday Shoe Drive benefiting people right here in the ATL. Info on drop-off locations will be forthcoming in a couple weeks.
So this is it! Just a couple more days and we are off to Peru. It’s so cool that what started as 2 chicks duking it out side-by-side at Powerman Alabama is now turning into an amazing friendship and a wicked cool adventure. I am so grateful for the experiences I’ve had in this sport, but mostly for the cool people I’ve met.
I don’t think I could’ve picked a better travel partner. The jury’s still out on whether or not she agrees.
I’ll do my best to keep the blog updated with travel reports, adventures, and photos. The “big-girl-camera” that I got last year is finally my responsibility to learn how to use. I’m scared but up for the challenge. ‘
The next challenge will be not to get our asses kicked too badly by the altitude. We have wisely allowed ourselves a measly 12 hrs to acclimate in Cusco before beginning the first trek to Machu Picchu. After that, all bets are off in terms of planned itineraries. We will be bussing or hitching rides (J/K Mom) to wherever seems cool. I’ve been practicing all week walking around in baggy pants, ghetto t-shirts, and beanie hats, achieving my look as the perfect mochilera (backpacker en espanol).
Check back regularly for all the juice.
