The Belgian Race Report . . .

Well, I don’t have much to report.   I was excited to finally have a blog to post my race reports and other happenings, but I’m afraid this is one “race-less” race report.

I am missing out on so much:  Belgian chocolate. Belgian waffles (is that for real?).  Belgian beer (I don’t even drink beer but, hey, they say it’s good).  I was most excited about traveling with my USA Teammate and good friend, Kiwi Bianca Simpson.  I am bummed!

Oh, yeah. And that little race on Sunday, too.

You see, I was supposed to be in Belgium this weekend for the Duathlon Long Course World Championship. I was wayyy psyched to be selected as one of three pro women on Team USA. The distance was more than just a little daunting (20k run, 80k bike, 10k run), and the competition will be fierce . . . but I was just honored to be a part of it all.

My hip flexor had other plans, though.  It flared up pretty bad last week and I am not one to push it when my body is trying to tell me something.   It’s ok… we made the right decision and I’m 100% sure of that. And there will always be another race. If I am smart with this, I know I can heal up quickly.  I was not interested in flying to Europe to realize at Mile 2 that I was in big trouble, to DNF (“did not finish”), or worse, take myself out for the rest of the year.  It was a good decision.  Best of luck to the rest of Team USA on Sunday. I hope you guys ”rage and shred” as my favorite New Zealander likes to say.

This hot little number will just have to wait till next year.  And I can’t wait to wear it!!

For now, frozen blueberries are taking the place of Belgian chocolate (fabulous ice pack in a pinch).  Onward and upward!

I’m moving on to thoughts of tacos and tequila, because Ironman Cancun 70.3 will be next on the agenda.  Lucky for me, my favorite training partner, Sport Factory teammate, and good friend, Matt Hanson, will also be traveling south of the border to do some damage.  I am bribing him to train with me in exchange for translator services.  (Please– nobody tell him that Cancun is practically all American.)

Yo quiero Mexico!   Hasta pronto!

I am sorry that you did not make it to the race, though everything happens for a reason (so I’ve been told)…. There will be many of great races to come… besides Mexican Margaritas will be much better than those Belgian Beer, Quesadillas instead of Belgian Waffles and we’ll have to find some Mexican Chocolate for you :)

By the way… great blog and great website…..

    Thanks for sharing it !
